Elian and Uncle Fidel

Nearly eight years after he was the focus of an international custody dispute at 6 years old, the Cuban press has announced that Elián González has joined the Young Communist Union. This comes several years after he told a CBS interviewer that he considers Mr. Castro "not only as a friend but as a father."

In "socialist paradise" Cuba, Elián is widely considered a hero and his return to his Cuban father's custody was celebrated by the socialist nation 90 miles off the coast of Florida. In fact, Elián's return to Cuba was so widely revered that it became part of a (surprise, surprise) propaganda campaign in which Fidel Castro had Elián's original Cuban home turned into a shrine
after his family moved to a more secluded living space. Castro declared that his bedroom serve as a museum dedicated to the "battle of ideas" between the heroic socialist, peace-loving nation of Cuba and her materialistic, capitalistic Yankee enemies to the north. What's even scarier is that the museum includes a life-size bronze statue of little Elián raising a clenched fist in the fashion which so many socialist "heroes" (tyrants) do. Little does this 14-year old boy know that his image is being used as propaganda for a tyrannical, wildly abusive socialist state.
